What time is it?

5:45 am my alarm goes off.  The plan is to run in the morning before the day gets away from me and I can think of another excuse of why I can't run.  Yawn, I'll just wait for the 6 am news.  The news just said its is going to snow again (boo hoo) and it's raining.  I'll just wait till this song ends.  Oh the news is on again....Oh NO it's the 7 am news...No time to run before work.

I set out all my stuff to run when I get back from work so there are no excuses.....Socks, running pants, shirt jacket.  Unfortunately, when I get home from work it has been raining all day and I don't really want to run but someone at work dared me to run in the rain (at least it has not started to snow yet).  Where did I put all that outdoor running gear from last year.  After looking for it for 30 minutes, I am out the door but the piles of winter outerwear and running clothes and equipment litters the floor.  It's cold and wet and I try to avoid the puddles (I hate running in wet shoes).  I will do a 5 km run a big loop so I can't just give up and go home...okay maybe not the whole 5 km but I do the 10:1 that the running room usually calls for.  My goal for this run is to run the 10 minutes without falling over and wanting to die. The reason I don't like running after work is that my loop takes me past McDonalds & A&W and I usually smell fries....Luckily for me there is no smell of food cooking.  Believe me there were times I wished I could run through the drive through.   During my first 10, my calfs are burning and hurting within 3 minutes but I know if I keep going it will hurt less.

During my second 10, I don't do so bad, especially since it is mostly down hill.  Oh but turn the corner and up the hill I go...I try to remember that Running is 90% mental and 10% physical.  My friends message to me during my first time running keeps looping in my head....Don't stop on a hill or you will never make it up to the top.  I actually made it up to the top with some energy to spare and think maybe you should run up Safeway hill.  No lets not be to crazy just finish your loop.  I managed to run 5 km in 36:47.  Not bad for a starter run since my watch tells me my fastest 5 km since last summer was 32:22.

Can't wait to see if I can move in the morning....It may have to be a cross training yoga day
